Our ground team on Mount Kilimanjaro

The most important part of the whole operation is our team on the ground in Tanzania. Thomas and Julian are brothers who grew up in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro and have seriously impressive climbing careers; Julian summated Kili 150 times before taking over all the admin work and our lead guide Thomas, who broke the 250 successful summits mark last year (incidentally meaning he has climbed 3.4 million feet, descending the same of course).

Thomas and Julian are some of the nicest guys you could meet and their knowledge of the mountain is extensive. Thomas is fluent in English and also speaks French, German and Dutch. He is a fully trained mountain medic and has guided with some of the world’s most famous climbers on Mount Kilimanjaro. After securing sponsorship from a group of pervious climbers, Thomas had the privilege of flying to Argentina to climb Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in South America.

Thomas and Julian have a core group of porters they use for many of their climbs. On all of our climbs we work to a ratio of 4 porters for every climber. This means none of the porters are overloaded with too much gear. It also means that you don't need to carry anything but the day's essentials from camp to camp each day, making the climb much more enjoyable.

Thomas' reputation on the mountain means that numerous porters want to climb for him and our core group are all excellent, friendly and hard-working guys. It seems like everyone knows Thomas on Mount Kilimanjaro. When Dave climbed the mountain in June, it seemed like every guide and porter in camp each night had a story about climbing with Thomas in the past. Watching the way he gets on with the other teams, guides and porters it's easy to see why he is so well liked!
