The Machame Route would be considered the most scenic of the routes. The sights along the way include Shira Cathedral on the Shira Plateau, the Lava Tower at the foot of the Western Breach and the Barranco Valley on the southern slopes; the sunsets are exceptionally beautiful. The Machame route is climbed in a minimum of 6 days, one day longer than the Marangu route. This extra day on the mountain proves beneficial as it gets you more accustomed to the altitude thus reducing any problems associated with altitude sickness.
Accommodation on the Machame route is slightly less comfortable than the Marangu route as you camp each night in tents (carried by the porters) as opposed to huts. It is for this reason that the Machame route is better suited to the slightly more adventurous climber.
